KAD quickshift - warning!
fitted one of these today to my Sportspack. Its stiff as buggary to get into 2nd (though i'm sure this will loosten up in time) BUT...this isn't my warning. It's only a simple thing, but where my interior is IMMACULATE, this bugs me. When you refit the gear gator, the chrome ring on the top, wont fit over the revers selector sleve, meaning you have to remove it to get the gaitor over. It's not overly noticable, but it annoys me. Im hoping that someone will post a reply saying "oh yes, you need to do this etc", but I fear this wont happen....

KAD
The kad quickshift needs no parts from your old gearlever. I have a perfect gearbox on my mini and the shift is gorgeous, sweet with a very satisfying mechanical precision feel. Worth every penny!

Quickshift
If its Metro, then its rod change. Remote is obvious because it has a huge casting sticking off the back of the gearbox that goes all the way back to the hole in the floor for the gear stick. Rod change has just two rods. Quickshifts vary in difficulty in fitting. The new KAD one is pretty easy because it is a direct replacement. Others require mods to your existing stick because I think you have to take bits off it for the new stick. Be careful with quickshifs though because it puts a hell of a strain on your gear box. That 2nd gear snick that most people have will get much worse. The quickshift works by moving the point of motion so the stick has a reduced mechanical advantage, but means that the end attached to the gear change rods moves much fast and further for a given input. Take it easy until you get used to it.

You need to push/pull them out because the you need the holes left by them to bolt on the new purple alloy bit.
Don't worry about damaging the pins getting them out because they won't fit afterwards anyway. You just need to not damage the alloy shift housing.
The new bolts will cut a thread into the holes where the pins were which makes the hole a bit bigger than before. This is possible to do from inside the car, but considerably easier (if a little more dangerous) to do under the car with it up on jacks.
FYI - if the reverse mechanism is a lift up collar under the gear knob then you've got yourself a proper KAD quickshift.

How to solve the vibration?
Hello All,
First off, let me say thanks to any who respond, it's really appreciated. Now, here's the problem. I just replaced my lower arms, tie rods, ball joints and drive shafts, and I have a really bad vibration, well, no worse than it was before at any rate... What should I look at, or tackle next? Just to clarify, it only vibrates at 50-55 mph. After that it's really smooth. Possibly tires? I know they can cause vibration, but damn it all if the tires are too small for the machines where I work! Also, is the KAD quickshift any good? Thanks for all your help!

KAD quick shift fittting - Help Needed
I have recently been given a new KAD Quickshift for my birthday and now i have come to fitting it i have hit a problem... Im fitting it to a 2000 MPI and I have removed the old gear leaver and i have removed the pins and got the point of fitting the new one and securing the M5 bolts... The problem i have come across is that the holes in the new gear lever and where the pins came from dont match. With the new lever in place, the housing doesn't sit low enough and the M5 bolts push into the metal instead of the holes. I have tried greasing the housing but it has made no difference and it seems to get stuck and wont sit low enough and its driving me nuts...
Has any one fitted one of these and did you have any problems? i really wanna get this fitted asap and its driving me nuts...
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Paul

Mini HLE 1982 1275cc 69,000miles, 12month Mot, tax July, blue/black roof, modified
Gutted. Selling my mini.......... 1275 metro engine and gearbox running very well. donor car had done 63,000 miles and engine has done 1000 miles in mini since February. Mini has covered 69,000 miles and is in great condition. I have just put a 12 month MOT on the car and it has tax until June. This car is an extremely reluctant sale which i have owned and loved for 7 years. I am travelling 100 miles a day so need a more dual carraigeway friendly motor so unfortunately the min has to go! It was resprayed from an awful mustard yellow to similar to surf blue with a black roof and black bonnet stripes in 1998 with new wings, a panels and a front panel. The car has many modifications and new parts and i have most of these receipts. Engine/gearbox: including a stage 1 kit, k and n, maniflow lcb, Headsteady, central rc50, 1 3/4" carb, tuned needle, new plugs/leads. i have a gta metro head (a series) which can be sold with car if required but the current set up is extremely good and quick. gearbox works very well and there is no common reverse crunch. A Kad quickshift has been fitted. The clutch is almost brand new as well as the flywheel assembly. Brakes: late type servo brakes, metro turbo discs and calipers. Suspension: negative camber front and rear, spax shocks, lowered all round, fully solid mounted front and rear. Adjustable tie bars. Quickrack steering rack 2.2 turns. Subframes: both in good condition and many happy miles of motoring left! rear replaced 2 years ago. Wheels/tyres: Minilite replica silver alloys with falken tyres 12" x 5". Interior: custom built black imitation leather dash with easy read dials - rev, original speedo, oil pressure, water temp, volts. blue kevlar light weight bucket seats worth £400 new with adjustable subframes. steering wheel drop bracket. custom made gear knob. External: 2 spots, 2 fogs at front, Lucas reverse light at rear from early cooper (rare and valuable). Black arches. Clear front indicators with orange bulbs. Stainless wipers. Halogen head lights. Alloy sumpguard. Price: £1495 ono Drop me an email and I will send you any photos you require. Any questions please ask!

For Sale My Kernow Mini and loads of spares
Due to a new baby arriving in the next few weeks which will take all my free time away,i have decided to sell my mini. She started as a 1988 city e but when i bought her she had been made into a rover cooper lookalike which the cooper arches, alloys etc http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/Zulu...ve/PICT0020.jpg the engine is from a MG metro with the following added : 1.5 high lift rocker set Aldon comp dizzy K & N pancake filter and stub-stack Heavy duty clutch picture of the engine bay can be found here : http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/Zulu...uDave/mini3.jpg it has a maniflow manifold and centre exhaust system. The mini had orignally a metro interior which i didnt like so i sourced a set of seats from a 1999 rover cooper which look far better. I have been collecting parts which i want to fit to her but just never had the time and with the new baby that will be even less here is a list of what is in the garage with the mini : Minisport suspension kit Hi/los shocks adjustable tie rods full poly bush kit rear camber brackets. new quick-rack steering rack Refurbished metro 4-pot brake calipers metro 4-pot brake hose kit Minisport sure stop brake kit for normal mini claipers (grooved and drilled discs and performance pads) and braided brake hose set. Metro drive flanges with the wheel locating lugs removed ERA turbo brake caliper bolts for the metro claipers Metro vented discs and performance pads competetion track rod ends front wheel bearing kit for both sides front ball joint kits x2 KAD quickshift the new version that doesnt need a donor stick and has the collar reverse selector 2x front seat anti-tip bars new carpet set and under felt set boxed car alarm spare new water pump ( the present one is fine and doesnt leak) new fuel tank sender the one fitted one goes to half a tank then drops new speedo cable the one fitted recently packed in the overall condition of the car is very good,i do keep it garaged and its only really used at weekends and maybe once during the week. The only place where rust is coming through is 2 places and is very minimal and i will post more pics tomorrow. the interior is very good and has a walnut dash,cd stereo etc she is taxed and MOT til end of december and flew through the last one with no faults !!! The Kernow Flag is just a PVC decal so can be easily removed if a non-cornish buyer is interested. I am very sad to see her go but i would love her to go to someone who has the time to fit all these parts and give her a loving home. feel free to contact me if you would a look or test drive. I am looking for £2500 and would pref to sell as a one lot rather than split
